You don't have to name them, just use numbers or something.

Is it going to give a -1 for losing, or only for leaving? Because sometimes it is really not entertaining to watch really bad players struggle in the face of a certain defeat with nothing you can do to turn it around.

By the way, it should also give automatic victory when the opposite team leaves completely.

at the moment my thoughts are about a rank system: 6 points for winning -3 for loosing, -5 for leaving,and a seperate leveling system: + 1 point for winning

Tbh this game needs a more complex rank system (a point-calculation including the strength of your opponents/mates), or its better to have no rank system at all. this system will only result in noobs having a top rank, telling new players what they think is a good strategy and this will result in even more noobs...

suggestion for rank distribution

low rank -> high points for win, low points for lose
mid rank -> balanced win/lose points
high rank -> low points for wins, high points for lose

example:

rank points for win points for lose points for leaving
1-16 +9 -1 -6
17-32 +7 -3 -8
33-56 +5 -5 -10
57-72 +3 -7 -12
73-88 +1 -9 -14

points for rankup

rank 1-8 9-16 17-24 25-32 33-40 41-48 49-56 57-64 65-72 73-80 81-88
points to the next rank 9 11 12 14 15 17 20 15 18 7 9

what will happen:

if ur bad u will still climb a couple of ranks
but overall ranks will be winrate-dependant
(for midrank u need about 50%
for high rank over 90%)

change the numbers as u like
but this would be a possible system aswell

btw dont think too much about the ranking system,
one can abuse any system and there are other more important things u could implement
to make the map actually good

Now that sounds much better.

I am still not very comfortable with the idea that leaving makes you lose more points than actually losing. I agree, that leavers should not get credit if the team wins and they left, but they should not be punished any harder. My reasons:

- Leavers do not affect the effective power of their team. The team will spawn more often, thus they'll have the same number of waves as before. In fact as of now having fewer players is kind of advantageous, as your relative power bottle neck will be much better (read less impact from bad players), plus the cannon for some weird reasons gives you more money (2v3 = +300, this is a very good boost, offsets things such as a early game money bug, 1v3 = +600 = insta win)
- Battle.net has a habit of randomly "dropping" people off the game.

The only downside of having less players on a team is that they have to be more versatile with their units. This is only really a problem for Toss, as Zerg and Terran standard openers are the same thing vs all races. And even Toss is adequately versatile with a Stalker/Sentry/Archon combo vs any race (only a bit sucky vs other Tosses).

I have a questions though:
will these points work for individual players, or will the teams be averaged? I'd suggest using team averages, as they represent the effective power much better. For example: Pro + Noob + Noob vs Pro + Pro + Noob is likely to be won by T2. Pro in T1 should not get the full punishment for losing to a clearly superior team.

Sylon you should look at the points system in Random TD, maybe ask the author how it's all done.

about point distribution:

In my concept they're individual.
ds is a fast paced game, u can play a plenty of rounds in little time
therefor i would rely on mere statistics: sometimes ur team is bad,
sometime s its mediocre, sometimes it actually even works.

This will even out on the average (only considering soloplayers by now,
and i'm pretty sure u CAN score 60-80% ratings solo)

A difference this system does:
if u have a set team of 2 or 3, u will of course have way higher win-rates
(which still is sort of adequat, since this IS a teamgame
If u think, u alone should be ur fates master, then u're wrong in 3vs3)

On a sidenote:
I still dont see why this map needs a complex pointsystem,
there really is not that much that demands skill or anything,
(espiacially not, seeing the average performance u get in bnet!)
read toho's guide, and u allready fall into the pro-class...
pretty much it...


as i allready have written in less detail,
this system gives some information on who's good and who's not
more isn't neede at all by now, take this time and
-fix scout's (espiacially price Razz )
-implement goliath
-...
that are things that add to the game
